A Wider View provides a thematically structured overview of Europe's most beautiful and expressive landscapes. It uncovers the factors that have contributed to the evolution of the regional geography and the resulting beauty, but it also considers the natural and engineered spatial transformations to which these landscapes are subject. A Wider View is an ode to the European landscape with 'portraits' of 20 of the most beautiful and most exceptional regions, from the Loire Valley in France to the Hungarian Puszta, from the fluvial forelands of the Netherlands to the Scottish Highlands, from Tuscany to Asturias. However, it also offers the prospect of an approach that strives to achieve a synthesis of sustainable protection and development of our landscapes by shrewdly exploiting the social dynamic. This is how cultural landscapes continue to be vital landscapes. |
