In association with the International Apeldoorn Garden and Landscape Architecture Triennial, Belvedere, Blauwdruk Publishers and Stichting A Wider View

The exhibition is from 11 June to 28 September at Radio Kootwijk.

A Wider ViewThe cultural landscape is the garden of the House of Europe. It is a binding force in a society that is increasingly global and moves ever faster, the counterpoise of progress. The cultural landscape is rapidly gaining in popularity, because society's metropolitanization, modernization and increasing mobility require a backdrop and a substratum - a context. In the cultural landscape, the reciprocal adaptation of nature and culture is rendered concrete and specific, so that you can visit, experience and admire it.

A Wider View provides a thematically structured overview of Europe's most beautiful and expressive landscapes. It uncovers the factors that have contributed to the evolution of the regional geography and the resulting beauty, but it also considers the natural and engineered spatial transformations to which these landscapes are subject.
How can we protect these landscapes, which are often ancient? To what extent are physical changes acceptable and is it possible to properly integrate them?

A Wider View is an ode to the European landscape with 'portraits' of 20 of the most beautiful and most exceptional regions, from the Loire Valley in France to the Hungarian Puszta, from the fluvial forelands of the Netherlands to the Scottish Highlands, from Tuscany to Asturias. However, it also offers the prospect of an approach that strives to achieve a synthesis of sustainable protection and development of our landscapes by shrewdly exploiting the social dynamic. This is how cultural landscapes continue to be vital landscapes.
