Contceptual art in the Netherlands and Belgium 1965-1975This publication presents a survey of the role that the Netherlands and Belgium played in the development and presentation of conceptual art in the period 1965-1975. Amsterdam, Cologne-Düsseldorf and Antwerp-Brussels formed a 'magical' triangle where artists, collectors and gallery owners exchanged ideas and staged exhibitions. The starting point for this book was the relationships between these individuals, the movements they formed, as well as the innovative character of their artistic productions, in which the primacy shifted to the idea and it was no longer the visual realization itself that was most important. The publication includes introductions to the work of a number of artists who were pioneering figures at that time and have continued to occupy important positions in later years.

Professor of art history and critic, Carel Blotkamp, describes the important events around a number of sensational exhibitions based on his personal involvement. In a polemical essay, arts critic and writer Camiel van Winkel looks back at 'historical' conceptual art and outlines developments that were initiated then. With the integral publication of the various manuscript versions of Sol LeWitt's 'Sentences' one of the seminal texts on conceptual art has also been included.
