Since the early nineties Krijn de Koning (1963) has been creating 'site-specific' sculptures, many of which are temporary. De Koning constructs his work from floors, walls and corridors. They are sometimes vividly coloured, sometimes an immaculate white, but they always relate to the surrounding space. De Koning examines how the architectonic environment as a material reality influences our mental state. His work raises questions about how architecture conditions and limits us; the perception of the beauty remains important.
The most ambitious publication on the artist to date, this publication examines his work from 1993 to the present. The book includes essays by the French artist Daniel Buren, the French art critic Michel Gauthier and the writer Bas Heijne, as well as an interview with De Koning which explores various aspects of his work more in depth.
