Ine Lamers. MotivesThe human environment and urban architecture occupy a central position in the large colour photographs by Ine Lamers (b. Wychen, 1954). The repetition and duplication of empty balconies and typical little holiday homes in the Dutch province in her photos reflect the serial character of housing construction. She seems to be in constant search of an event that breaks out of this uniformity.

In her latest work, Lamers employs cinematic and photographic means to create narrative works. The selection that Ine Lamers made for this publication includes photos of sparsely lit spaces. The images of empty balconies, open spaces in London and New York, and holiday homes at night all give the impression that something is about to happen, like an empty stage where the action is about to begin. The texts consider various aspects of these works. Dramaturgist Maaike Bleker discusses the theatrical staging that is so characteristic of Lamers' work. In a discussion between Ine Lamers and the philosopher Frank Van de Veire, the more literary and conceptual aspects take centre stage.
