Daniel Kurjakovic, Antonio Guzman, Eran Schaerf Aglaia Konrad Design: Armand Mevis (Mevis en Van Deursen) With the support of Editions de l'Aquarium Agnostique, Valenciennes and Argos Editions, Brussels
Elasticity is an ambitious and substantial tome that offers an insight into the characteristics and images of the metropolis in a stratified way. Konrad has a highly individual way of manipulating the images, revealing a fascinating topography of urban fabrics, facades, infrastructure, architectural forms and surfaces. In a photographic essay spanning 240 pages she uses her personal photographic archive to 'install' her work in the book in a new sequence and rhythm. The book also offers a reflection on the work in the form of essays, by Daniel Kurjakovic (freelance curator, art critic and art historian), Antonio Guzman (director of the l'Aquarium/Art et Recherche exhibition space/art centre in Valenciennes) and Eran Schaerf (artist) respectively. Konrad's images are a stimulus for a diversity of disciplines: art, photography, urbanism, architecture and urban sociology. Her work is the subject of increasing interest, national and internationally, and has featured in solo and group exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad (including Centrum Beeldende Kunst, Rotterdam 1992; The National institute for Photography in the Netherlands, Rotterdam 1994; Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, 1995; Documenta X, Kassel 1997; Shanghai Biennale, 2000; Orbis Terrarum, Antwerp 2000; Architektur Zentrum Wien, Vienna 2001). |
