Exhibition in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen from February 21 to April 20, 2003.

ShineShine is a presentation of artworks in which Dutch and international artists present their wish dreams and visions for the future. In their imagination they free themselves from the hard reality of the everyday, not acting naively and shutting out the facts, but as a considered choice. The key work is a masterpiece from the permanent collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the floor sculpture composed of 75 bars of polished stainless steel by Walter De Maria: A Computer Which Will Solve Every Problem in the World, 3-12 Polygon(1984). Besides this illustrated section, the main part of the book is taken up by three essays. Curator Wilma Sütö elaborates the theme of the exhibition in her introduction, on the basis of the selected works of art. The writer Bas Heijne examines the importance of the imagination in this new century that has so swiftly presented us with disillusionment. The French philosopher Michel Onfray seeks to answer the question 'Where is happiness?' in his essay 'To Enjoy and Bring Enjoyment'. The book is being published to coincide with the exhibition of the same name in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, presenting works by Paul Cox, Martin Creed, Jeroen Eisinga, Daan van Golden, Christian Jankowski, Rince de Jong, Liza Lou, Tracey Moffatt, Walter De Maria, Saskia Olde Wolbers, Roman Opalka, Gerco de Ruyter, Maria Roosen, Jean Marc Spaans, Fiona Tan, Henk Tas, Fred Tomaselli and Dré Wapenaar.
