| NAI PUBLISHERS ANNOUNCES PUBLISHING AGREEMENT WITH THE BERLAGE INSTITUTE

NAi Publishers, an international Rotterdam-based publisher of books and journals on architecture and urbanism, and the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam, are pleased to announce a long-term publishing agreement.
Over the course of the next several years, both organizations anticipate the release of several lines of publications, developed under the editorial direction of Salomon Frausto, including the book series Berlage Research Reports on Contemporary Urbanism, which will present select research activities produced by Berlage Institute faculty, participants and affiliates; and the re-launch of the reformatted journal Hunch, which will continue to present contributions on a featured topic related to Dutch architecture culture as well as other complementary columns, essays, interviews and design projects. The first issue of the renewed Hunch will be presented on Tuesday 31 March 2009 at the Berlage Institute.
The Dutch publishing house NAi Publishers specializes in international publications concerning architecture, urbanism, planning and the built environment; as well as design, photography and the arts. The Berlage Institute is an international post-academic laboratory for design-based research in architecture, urbanism and other issues related to the built environment. Its activities include a two-year postgraduate programme, a three-year PhD programme, contract research projects and a public programme of lectures, exhibitions and symposia. Based on the Berlage Institute’s expertise and their quality of research, bridging practice and theory for both the academic and architecture communities, NAi Publishers is convinced that the collaboration will prove an asset to its architecture and urbanism list.
Eelco van Welie, director of NAi Publishers, is extremely satisfied with the cooperation between both organizations. ‘The Berlage Institute brings new and provocative thinking to the practice of architecture. Their research and theorizing is always based on urgent problems in the real world. I think it will strengthen our position as providers of quality content for the architecture community and its related fields of profession.’
Rob Docter, general director of the Berlage Institute, is pleased to work with the publishing house to further enrich the discourses of the built environment. ‘Following the refocusing of our publications programme in recent years, the Berlage Institute is delighted to collaborate with NAi Publishers to continue to strengthen our printed material. In the coming years we aim to better situate the challenges of the contemporary Dutch built environment in an international perspective. This publishing relationship provides the opportunity to exchange and disseminate the richness of Dutch architecture and planning expertise in a broader context.’
